Choosing Breakfast

Healthy Breakfast

For Better Nutrition and Dental Health!

It’s often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and there’s a lot of truth behind it. Though the links between eating, blood sugar levels, and performance aren’t fully understood, the evidence suggests that eating breakfast boosts energy and attention span in the morning hours.

But the benefits depend on the menu. From the standpoint of nutrition and dental health, the day’s first meal can present a dilemma.

You probably know that many kinds of cereal and pastries are filled with sugar (which can be harmful to teeth), but some nutritious foods are also prime suspects in tooth decay. Granola, bananas, and raisins are among the morning favorites most likely to cause cavities. If your meal has a soft consistency that sticks to teeth, then brushing afterward is extra important.

Instead, consider whole grains to help reduce the risk of tooth decay. Whole-grain cereal (topped with berries rather than pure sugar), whole-wheat toast, as well as eggs, apples, and oatmeal are all terrific breakfast options.

Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, and with a little planning, you can also make it healthy for teeth!
